Ignite the Flame for Reading!

Would your child enjoy the opportunity to read and collaborate with their peers outside of school?

Well, here is their chance! This year, we are kicking off our NEW SSM Flames Book Club! The book club is designed to give your child a new reading experience outside of school. He/she will be thrilled to be a part of a small group of peers who are reading together and
sharing their thoughts over what they read. Small groups will be led by parents.

Who: The book club is for SSM students, Grades 3rd-8th! Parent volunteers will lead each book club meeting. A parent for each child in the group is responsible for at least 1 group meeting a year. Each parent/host should read the group book and facilitate a meaningful discussion with the students.

Home & School will help by organizing small groups of 6-8 students. Each grade from 3rd to 8th grade will be assigned to a small group within their respected grade level. Please Note: Students participating in the Book Club MUST have a parent who is Safe Environment trained (as all participants will host a meeting once/year).

What: The purpose of the book club is to offer a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for parents and students to discuss their chosen book(s). Home & School will provide a list of recommended books for each grade level. Parent volunteers and their assigned small group will select a book(s) that best fits their interests.

When: As a group, you may decide how often you want to meet. We recommend for meetings to be held on a monthly basis to ensure students are consistently engaged and having fun.

Where: Parent hosts may choose to hold the book club meetings at their home or another location (i.e., library, park, Starbucks, etc.). If interested in hosting your meeting at the GPC, please contact Melissa at m.kane@stephen.org to reserve a time

How to Sign Up: The SSM Flames Book Club sign up period has ended for the 20201/22 school year.  However, if your child is interested in finding a group or putting a new one together, please contact Luiza Havlet at luizahavlat@gmail.com.
