Meet Miss Sydney O'Shaughnessy

We asked our teachers & staff a few questions so that you can get to know them better!

What is your role at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School?
Kindergarten TA

What year did you start working at St. Stephen?

Tell us about your education background & about your teaching/work experience.
I played volleyball in college while majoring in Art (concentration in 2D) and a minor in Art History. This is my first year being a Teacher Associate, but I plan on going back to school to earn my teacher's certificate this summer. I am also a varsity assistant volleyball coach at Skutt Catholic High School and club coach for VCN in Lincoln.

What do you love about your job?
I love that every single day brings different challenges and opportunities. I also love how much the kids want to be at school to learn; it's extremely rewarding to know I'm positively impacting a student's life!

Tell us about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc.):
I have 2 parents, no siblings, my grandma (Omi) is from Germany and half of my family still lives in Germany.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an artist or a writer. In high school, I wanted to be an English Teacher.

What is your favorite sweet treat?
It's impossible to pick just one, but maybe ice cream or double stuffed vanilla Oreos!

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
My hobbies include: sewing, reading, organizing, watching movies, and shopping.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
My favorites things to do are watching movies/shows with my parents, hanging out with my friends, cleaning my room, and curling up on the couch with a book.

What piece of advice would you give parents to help their child(ren) succeed at St. Stephen?
In this difficult time, my best advice would be to understand that everyone is truly doing their best to help the students succeed. It's also super important to be involved in the life of the school and the community.
