Meet Kama McAdams

We asked our teachers & staff a few questions so that you can get to know them better!

What is your role at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School?
1st Grade Teacher

What year did you start working at St. Stephen?
2020

Tell us about your education background & about your teaching/work experience.
I have an Associate's Degree in General Studies, a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources, and a Master of Art in Education. I stayed home with my girls for a long time, before deciding to go back to school to get my degrees. I worked in HR for a couple of years before deciding that I should have done what I wanted to do in the first place and went back to school for teaching.

What do you love about your job?
My absolute favorite part of teaching is the relationships I have been able to build with the kids. They make me laugh a lot and I love each of their different personalities.

Who is your favorite Saint or what is your favorite scripture?
My favorite Saint is St. Anthony. Unfortunately, I pray to him often, because I need his help finding things. I also had First Communion and was married at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus.

Tell us about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc.):
I've been married to my husband, Matt, for 16 years. We have three daughters, whose names are Gabriella (15), Alainey (13), and Madyn (10). We also have a giant German Shepherd named Sampson and a Shiba Inu named Barry.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I love animals and wanted to be a veterinarian when I was a kid. As I began to realize I would actually have to perform surgery on animals, I decided I better go another route.

What is your favorite sweet treat?
This isn't really a sweet treat, but I'm addicted to coffee and tea.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
I can roll both of my eyelids up. I love water, especially the Great Lakes, and I visit them at least a couple of times a year. My family loves paddle boarding and tubing.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Spend time with my family. We love to take short trips when my girls don't have sports. During the winter, I stay in as much as possible, because I don't like the cold. In the summer, we're barely home.
