What year did you start working at St. Stephen?
2019
Tell us about your experience in education:
After graduating from Creighton University with my Bachelors in Elementary Education started teaching in 2007 for Bellevue Public schools, where I taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, 4th grade, and 2nd grade. After staying home with my youngest for a couple of years I started the Transitional Kindergarten program at St. Stephen the Martyr in 2019.
What do you love most about the St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School community?
That we are an actual community! We love and support each other through success as well as sorrows. There is a place for everyone to be involved in some capacity and all are welcome!
What piece of advice would you give parents to help their child(ren) succeed at St. Stephen?
Encourage and practice kindness and respect for others inside outside of school, and remind your child every day that making mistakes is a natural part of growing up into who God created them to be. Students also feel more confident and connected when their parents are involved or at least have knowledge of all the different activities and learning happening. Please take advantage of all the great opportunities we have for parents to come be a part of our school.
What, in your experience, is the best part about teaching at a Catholic school?
The best part of teaching in a Catholic school is getting to nurture the whole child. Actually getting to focus on building character, empathy, and supporting a moral compass that is rooted in faith.
Tell us about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc.):
When I’m not in the classroom, I love spending time with my family! My husband, Chris, and I have two amazing daughters, Felicity and Natalie. St. Stephen the Martyr is truly a second home for us– both of our daughters attended SSM! Natalie is still thriving here as an SSM student, while Felicity is off doing great things in college at Marquette University.
What is your favorite sweet or salty treat?
My favorite candy is anything with dark chocolate, my favorite salty treat is cheesy popcorn
What is your favorite coffee/drink order?
My favorite cold drink is Iced peach green tea from Starbucks, my favorite hot drink is white chocolate mocha from Starbucks
