Meet Mrs. Julie Gorup

What is your role at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School?
1st Grade Teacher 

What year did you start working at St. Stephen?
I started working at St. Stephen’s in 2016. I moved in 2019 and returned in 2025.

Tell us about your educational background & your teaching/work experience.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. I have worked as a financial accountant, have taught 3rd grade and preschool, and now I will be teaching 1st grade.

What do you love about your job?
I love building relationships with my students and their families. I love watching my students learn new things, gain confidence in their abilities, and grow their faith.

Who is your favorite Saint or what is your favorite scripture?
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13

Tell us about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc.):
I have been married for 17 years to my husband, Mark. We have three children. Markus is 15 years old, Maddox is 13 years old, and Maisy is 12 years old. We also have two Aussiedoodles – Mookie and Jett.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I have always loved math and learning new things. When I was a kid, I wanted to either be an Accountant or a Teacher.

What is your favorite sweet treat?
My favorite sweet treat is peanut butter M&Ms.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
My hobbies include spending time outdoors and traveling with my family. I love to take walks, plant flowers, and visit new places.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
My favorite thing to do on the weekends is to watch my children play sports. They are involved in baseball, basketball, and softball.

What piece of advice would you give parents to help their child(ren) succeed at St. Stephen?
