Meet Mrs. Kristine Hacker
We asked our teachers & staff a few questions so that you can get to know them better!
What is your role at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School?
2nd Grade Teacher Associate
What year did you start working at St. Stephen?
2023
Tell us about your educational background & your teaching/work experience.
I earned my bachelor’s degree from Creighton University and my master’s degree from the University of Nebraska – Omaha. After graduating from Creighton, I taught 5th then 2nd grade at Christ the King Catholic School in Omaha. I became a stay-at-home mom when our first child was born and treasured this time until beginning as a TA at St. Stephen the Martyr after our youngest started college.
What do you love about your job?
I love the opportunity to try to communicate to the children through my words and my help how special and loved they are as children of God. It is a privilege to be able to serve their teachers and great fun to be in the classroom again!
Who is your favorite Saint or what is your favorite scripture?
Currently, my favorite saint is Saint Teresa of Avila. She reminds me, “Let nothing trouble you, let nothing frighten you. All things pass away. God never changes. Patience obtains everything. Whoever has God lacks nothing. God alone is enough.”
Tell us about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc.):
My husband’s name is Tim. One of my student’s mothers worked with him and set us up on a blind date. We have three children, Jeremy, Sean, and Megan. Our dog’s name is Chip. Chip is getting older, but he still acts like a puppy!
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a child, I wanted to be a teacher. I spent a lot of time reading and playing school and had some wonderful teachers who inspired this vocation. I started college as a psychology major but soon added a major in elementary education to return to my childhood plans.
What is your favorite sweet treat?
I like chocolate covered almonds and anything lemon-flavored.
Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
I still enjoy reading. I took piano lessons for years and can play the guitar a tiny bit! I also like to ice skate and travel.
What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
My favorite way to spend time is doing anything with my family. I enjoy going for walks and playing games and being with friends.
What piece of advice would you give parents to help their child(ren) succeed at St. Stephen?
I believe it is important to help children recognize their gifts, acknowledge that these gifts are from God, and find joy in sharing them.
