5th Grade English/Literature
What year did you start working at St. Stephen?
2026
Tell us about your experience in education:
I’ve definitely experienced a lot of different and wonderful roles as an educator. My journey started by student teaching 4th grade in Millard. Upon graduating, I became a para in Kindergarten in Westside. My first full time job was for Papillion LaVista Schools as a 4th grade teacher at Anderson Grove for 4 years. After 4 years there, I chose to become a full-time stay-at-home-mom for 10 years while also working part-time as a substitute teacher and part-time Christian Education Director at a church in Ralston. Working as a Christian Ed Director was so fulfilling. I ran the nursery, organized Sunday School classrooms and lessons; K-High School and lead Mission Trips. It was an exciting experience full of many different roles and adventures! Making the decision to return to the classroom in 2019, I taught 4th grade and 5th grade in Millard for 3 years. I moved on to Elkhorn for 1 year as a 5th grade teacher and proceeded to enter into the Archdiocese where I taught 4th grade at St. Bernard’s for the past 3 years; 2023-2026. I have my B.S. in Elementary Education from Wayne State College and my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane College. Throughout all of my experience, I have taught inclusively without departmentalizing and teaching all subjects, but have also departmentalized only teaching Math and Spelling. Being an educator is so fulfilling and I learn so much every year!
What do you love most about the St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School community?
I love the large, supportive community at St. Stephen’s and the positive and kind welcoming from everyone I’ve met so far.
What piece of advice would you give parents to help their child(ren) succeed at St. Stephen?
One piece of advice would be to stay positive and open to communication as a partner in their child’s education.
What, in your experience, is the best part about teaching at a Catholic school?
I love being able to read in the Bible and pray with my students at any time. I enjoy asking my students if they have any concerns or prayers that we can lift up for them on a more personal level. Kids are so intuitive and smart and it’s nice to acknowledge their thoughts and prayers too.
Tell us about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc.):
My husband Jason and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary in July! Our first born daughter Jaycelyn just turned 18 in June, graduated from Millard South and will be moving to Wayne State College in August pursuing an Education major. Next our son Braiden will be a senior in the Fall at Millard South. He just turned 17 as an “Irish twin” to Jaycelyn. They are under a year apart by one day! Our next son Brody is 13 and will be an 8th grader at Andersen Middle. Our final daughter Jayden is 10 and will enter into 5th grade at Ackerman Elementary in Millard. We have 2 cats Lucy and Chubs, many fish, 2 hermit crabs and a pet Gecko named Luigi. My boys are totally into soccer and fishing! My oldest did show choir and loves art, singing and dance. Our youngest daughter plays the cello, loves art and will most-likely follow in her big sister’s footsteps and join show choir. We are a very busy, active family that loves to be outside and be with family.
What is your favorite sweet or salty treat?
I love cashews and SKOR candy bars.
What is your favorite coffee/drink order?
I love sugar-free Dr. Pepper and Caramel coffee, hot/cold/blended- anything!
