Meet Mrs. Jenny Jensen

We asked our teachers & staff a few questions so that you can get to know them better!

What is your role at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School?
4th Grade Teacher

What year did you start working at St. Stephen?
2024

Tell us about your educational background & your teaching/work experience.
I studied and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney before moving to Houston, TX. I started teaching there in 2005 and remained there for almost three years before returning to Omaha. Once there, I taught 4th grade for seven years at Belvedere Elementary. During that time, I graduated with my Masters in Education. I decided to start a daycare to be home with my children and I stayed there for nine years. I’m excited to return to the classroom!

What do you love about your job?
First, I love to create relationships with my students. I like to be silly in class while keeping structure. I love connecting in as many ways as possible. I love to help my students find out about themselves while seeing that everyone is different in special ways.

Who is your favorite Saint or what is your favorite scripture?
I recently found that St. Therese of Lisieux is amazing in every way! I am learning more about living what she called the “little way”.

Tell us about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc.):
I have been married to my amazing husband, Alex, for 17 years. He is a physical education teacher at St. Columbkille Catholic School. We have 3 busy children who attend St. Columbkille: Ian is an 8th grader, Dominic is in sixth grade and Grace is a third grader. We live in Papillion.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid, I went back and forth between wanting to be a teacher and a doctor or nurse. I remember trying to teach my sisters when they were toddlers, but that didn’t go so well! I guess that stuck with me because I decided to become a teacher!

What is your favorite sweet treat?
I could eat ice cream with every meal!

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
I am pretty crafty. I like to sew quilts when I have a chance and have tried out macrame. I enjoy painting and many other crafts that I find on Pinterest. I also love to bake cakes and cookies which I occasionally make for family and friends.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
I love to spend time with my family on the weekends. Sometimes we go camping while other times we go to my kids’ activities.

What piece of advice would you give parents to help their child(ren) succeed at St. Stephen?
My advice is to love and support them and encourage them to always do their best. Remember that each child is different and has various strengths and weaknesses. It is important that they know they are special in God’s eyes and your heart!
