Meet Mrs. Katie Tessari

We asked our teachers & staff a few questions so that you can get to know them better!

What is your role at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School?
Library Teacher

What year did you start working at St. Stephen?
2018

Tell us about your education background & about your teaching/work experience.
Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, Benedictine College
  • Masters of Literacy, UNO
  • Certified Reading Specialist

Work History: I spent the first 6 years of my career teaching at St. Bernard’s. I’ve taught 1st grade, 3rd grade, reading intervention/resource, and library. Fun fact: I attended SSM for K-8 grade!!

What do you love about your job?
I enjoy sharing my love of books and reading with students. Even those who “hate” reading, enjoy a good read aloud story!

Who is your favorite Saint or what is your favorite scripture?
St. Therese of Lisieux is my favorite saint because she did big things in a little way. My favorite scripture is Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am GOD.” Sometimes we need that reminder that it’s not about us.

Tell us about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc.):
I recently got married to my wonderful husband Steve. Between the two of us, we have a bunch of nephews and nieces to spoil. We also have a Border Collie mix named Harley who is the biggest snuggle bug ever and also kind of spoiled.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I have pretty much wanted to be a teacher my whole life with a brief thought of pediatric nursing.

What is your favorite sweet treat?
Anything with chocolate or caramel.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
I love the water and do know how to wakeboard and water ski.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Read a good book, watch baseball, go on an adventure.

What piece of advice would you give parents to help their child(ren) succeed at St. Stephen?
Actively encourage your children to do their personal best in school. Place value on their education and academic endeavors. If they know you value their efforts and successes they will too!
